"To begin applying to college, the first thing to do is to make a list of schools, including reaches, matches, and safety schools. On average in the US, each student applies to 6-10 schools. Make sure you are finished with standardized testing by the summer before you begin applying to schools, to avoid the extra stress of trying to study for them while applying at the same time. Look up released score percentiles for schools and see if you fit within their 25th to 75th percentile score range for the SAT or ACT." written by Julia.

"It's important to remember that while scores alone certainly do not dictate whether you will be admitted or rejected, they can be a good indicator of whether you are scoring at around the same level as each school's enrolled students." written by Julia.

(25th to 75th percentile score range):

"Next, you can browse each college's website to get a feel for what type of student they want, and what overall vibe the campus gives off.

If it's possible, visit schools you are interested in, to get a feel for campus and hear what enrolled students actually have to say about their schools.

Visiting schools is the best way to form your own opinion about a school, and also sends a message to the schools that you are interested in applying." written by Julia.

"The guidance office in a high school is also a lot of help to students who are applying to colleges. Guidance counselors can help with submitting forms, sending official transcripts and test scores, giving advice on which schools to apply to, and keeping track of important deadlines." written by Julia.

04

"If, after doing your research, you have a first choice school that you would like to attend no matter what, apply early decision! This demonstrates to colleges that you are very interested.

Early decision is an option for college applicants who know where their first choice college is, and are prepared to submit everything under an earlier deadline. Applicants can pick only one school to apply early decision to." written by Julia.

05

"I decided to apply early decision to the University of Pennsylvania, and the deadline for early decision to Penn was November 1st. Early decision applicants got their decisions on December 13. For regular decision applicants, their deadline was January 1 and they got their decisions on March 28. This way, if you apply early decision to a school but get rejected, you may still apply to regular decision schools." written by Julia.

"Applying to college may seem a daunting task at first, but doing your research and surrounding yourself with a supportive group of people can greatly facilitate the whole process. It's a very fulfilling feeling to express yourself in an application to a school, and submit it knowing that you did your best!" written by Julia.
